As a matter of fact, with regards to promotions, Hollywood Casino boasts some of the easiest-to-meet wagering requirements in the market, making it easy for new and existing users to net a bit of extra betting cash through promos.

Though the operator isn’t yet live in Michigan, we can take a look at its presence in other states for an idea of bonus packages and features. We expect that MI users can look forward to a deposit match bonus similar to that in Pennsylvania, which is a match of $251 on two deposits.

Instead of the standard single bonus offer, Hollywood comes out swinging and has said “we’ll do you one better– twice“, and offered two deposit bonuses of $251, edging out the competition by a few bucks. A few dollars can matter, and this offer is already doing a good job boosting their customer base. That’s a total of $502 in extra betting cash that you can net if you meet deposit requirements (minimum of $10, maximum of $251, deposit twice and wager that amount to net the deposit bonus).

We’ll get a little bit further into wagering requirements: often, online casinos will require you to wager an amount four, five, even ten or twenty times more than the bonus amount to earn it. For example, a similar online casino offers a $500 deposit match with 20x wagering requirements, which leads to needing to wager $10,000 to clear the bonus.

Not so with Hollywood Casino– the wagering requirement is 1x the bonus. That means, if you want to net a full $502, you simply have to make two deposits and two wagers of $251 and wager that $502 1x through. That is $9498 less than the competition.

Hollywood Casino is currently operating legally in Pennsylvania. The information contained in this review is mostly borrowed from our experience with the platform in that state, but we don’t expect things to be very much different when the operator brings its services to the Great Lake State.

Michigan online casinos were not a reality until late 2019 when the state legislature finally came to an agreement and the bill was signed into law. Naturally, simply being signed into law is not enough– the Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) has to establish a framework in which said legal online casinos will function. It’s also important to remember that all online betting in the US legal on a state by state basis, meaning that apps and desktop browsers will have to verify that you’re playing only from within the state listed on the app. Desktop users will verify their location by downloading a browser plugin and enabling it whenever they wager, while mobile users can simply enable the Hollywood Casino app to access their location.

Despite having to be located in the state of Michigan to participate, you do not need to be a resident of the state to play. This might make users a little skittish, but as we’ve stated, all of these apps are licensed and regulated by state control boards. Your Android device will warn you about any third-party apps, but all of the apps we will mention are safe to download and install.

Desktop Platform

The desktop version of Hollywood casino is, in many ways, a better way to experience the app. Slots and other games perform well on all devices, but the screen space on desktop feels a bit less cramped than it does on mobile. Additionally, live dealer games benefit greatly from the expanded screen and tend to perform better on mobile.

User Experience

Overall, the user experience is a positive one on Hollywood Casino. The interface is relatively bland and unimpressive, and the whole site feels like a hold-over from a 2000’s era online poker lounge (complete with jazzy MIDI files playing in the background of some table games).

In addition to the lack of variety, we’ve noticed quite a few glitches with both the desktop and the mobile versions of the Hollywood Casino platform online. At times, we’d be clicking into a blackjack table only to be greeted by a loading screen for an online slot. The app will occasionally hang or outright claim there is a network error, even when your connection is fine. These connectivity issues were usually self-resolving and didn’t affect any of our wagers, but it was still a bit frustrating to have to step backwards because the website or app directed you to the wrong game.

Still, Hollywood Casino has a relatively competitive selection of available games including live dealer games, a good selection of varied slots, and a well-functioning desktop version and apps that don’t challenge users too much. The games perform relatively well, and even the video poker feels authentic without skimping on a modern design. Many online casinos use outdated graphics, but Hollywood Casino, though a bit messy, does make use of modern screens with flashy animations and newer skins on old favorites.

If you’re looking for a good place to get online and play casino favorites for real money without having to think too much, Hollywood Casino is a good choice, especially for Michiganders who haven’t previously had access to online casino gaming.

We really hope that Hollywood steps up their game both figuratively and literally by adding a bit more variety in the table game department.
